Tips when attending college campus!

Posted by Timothy McGlenn at Dec 3, 2012 1:44PM PST ( 1 Comment )

I’ve put together a few tips for attending college baseball camps…

This is the time of year when a lot of HS and youth players attend college camps. College camps can be great for two main reasons: 1) The quality of the instruction and, 2) Recruiting purposes. Here is a list of things to do when attending college camps:

  1. - If you’re interested in attending that school and playing baseball, be sure to email or call the coaching staff before showing up at camp. This will let them know you’re interested and give them time to do some background research on you.
  1. - Introduce yourself to all of the coaches working. Tell them your name, age, and where you are from. Also, give them a firm handshake when saying hello!
  1. - Pay attention! You can learn a lot from these instructional camps, but only if you’re paying attention. When coaches are speaking listen to what they have to say instead of talking with your buddies…this happens a lot more than you think!
  1. - Be open minded to trying some new things. I know you may think that your swing is “locked in”, but the staff working the camp may see something that you can improve. If they make a suggestion listen to what they are saying (see Tip #3) and make an honest effort. I promise you that they’re only telling you things that they think will make you better.
  1. - Don’t forget to have fun! Don’t stress yourself out because you weren’t on top of your game the first day. Try to get better in day two and have fun. Don’t let one bad round of BP ruin your camp.
  1. - Look around campus. You’re already there, you might as well try to drive/walk around campus and see if it is a school that you might enjoy going to.

Make two goals for yourself at any camp you attend. Try to have fun, and try to get better. If you accomplish both of those it’s a successful camp!

HEL Baseball

Our Commitment to the program is from the same players.

Here is a question…

Do your actions match your goals?

All players have goals.

Some want to play College ball.
Some just want to make the team.

No matter what your goal is you have to take the right action towards that.

Ask yourself this, “Do my daily actions match up with my goals?”

You can’t tell me you want to play College ball
if you play video games and surf Facebook 5 hours a day. Or can’t make at least one conditioning session a week.

You can’t tell me you want to make the team, if you don’t have a daily plan to improve your skills.

You can’t tell me we can get team cohesion in ten days after tryouts or you can remember 15-20 pages of information in that same amount time.

If your actions don’t match your goals, you basically have two choices:

1. Shrink your goals
2. Change your habits.

Get to work.
